Sailboat Performance 101

Sailboat Performance 101
How to (Legally) Make Your Boat Faster
Frank DeBord

Do you know how to maximize your boat speed in all conditions?   To achieve this you have to understand the wind and water forces acting on it, and how your actions can change these forces. This presentation is a practical discussion of things you can do to make your boat faster. It discusses the forces acting on any racing yacht and then provides specific actions you can take to legally improve your boat speed. Examples are given for a typical racer/cruiser, a sport boat and a Star.

Frank DeBord is a Naval Architect with more than 35 years of experience analyzing racing yacht performance, including performance optimization for eight America’s Cup defenders and challengers, two Volvo Race syndicates and more than 20 Grand Prix ocean racers.   Projects have included course record holders for the Newport to Bermuda, Transpac and Sydney Hobart races.

Time for a Reset

Sometimes technology and service providers just don't like to play along with the program that you set out. I think we have come to that point with Yahoo.
Normally people like to receive official emails from our official notice board for Wednesday Night Racing. I'm happy to do that, but there are so many people! Using Yahoo groups was great because I could manage the big email list using simple tools and they would handle sending all the emails. Well, no longer. Yahoo doesn't want me to manage the email addresses anymore.

So what's a poor Race Committee person to do?

We're switching up to Blogger and Mailchimp to handle our little official group here! It should be very exciting. There will be lots of new ways for people to get information. I think you will like it. More to come as we transition over.
