Watch the Log Canoes on the Miles River - for free (lunch included!)

Fellow sailors...

I know everyone's aware of our unique Chesapeake Bay Log Canoe fleet, and that our local MRYC is considered the fleet's home. This weekend and next (Sept 6/7, 12/13), MRYC hosts the final two weekends of racing.

As you all know, running a race requires a lot of resources - and MRYC could use some additional help.

This Saturday (2 races, 10am and 2pm starts) they need 1-2 able bodied mark boat crew members. On Sunday (1 race, 10am start), they could use a mark boat & driver, and 1-2 able bodied mark boat crew members.

2010 Chesapeake Bay Log Canoe Schedule

By far, our most popular post from last year was about the log canoe schedule. Well, I hate to disappoint, so here is the schedule for 2010.

June 26th/27th	Miles River Yacht Club
July 10th/11th	Chester River Y & C C
July 17th/18th	Rock Hall Yacht Club
July 31st / Aug 1st	MRYC Governors Cup
Aug 14th/15th	Tred Avon Yacht Club
Aug 28th/29th	TAYC Heritage Regatta
Sept 11th/12th	MRYC Labor Day Series
Sept 18th	Miles River Yacht Club
Sept 19th	Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum

Normally there are two races on Saturday, one at 10 am and one at 2 pm, and one race on Sunday starting at 10 am. The exact start times for the races is really just a guess. Times can change once the race committee measures the wind conditions on the water.

Spectator boats are welcome, but you should watch your wake. Even a small wave can cause big problems for these boats!

Edmee is Sailing to Oxford

The Log Canoe on which I sail, Edmee S., is planning to sail from St. Michaels to Oxford on August 6th in honor of 150 years of log canoe racing. 150 years ago no one was towing around in relative comfort and no one was trailering to a convenient boat ramp.

If you're interested in following us as we sail around, here’s the plan: Thursday, August 6th, 10:30am

• We will start at Green "1" at the mouth of the Miles River
• Once the canoe is south of Green "1" entrance to Knapps Narrows, tow through.
• Once East of Green "5" on the Choptank side of the narrows, start sailing again.
• Finish will be R"2" off the Tred Avon Yacht Club.

Rain day is Friday, August 7th, 10:30am.

We’re planning to bring two chase boats and several extra crew. We’re also going to try to bring some photographers from local news groups. Sailing through Knapps Narrows is not allowed (bridge tender would get mad), so we're going to tow through.

Could be stupid, could be fun - most likely both. Hope to see you out there.
