August 5th is the James H. Wilson "Around the Island" Race. You know it, you love it. Mr. Jimmy was a big proponent of the race where we get to stretch our legs a bit in the big water of Eastern Bay.Last year, we had a drifter that had to be shortened in order to save our sanity. I'm not sure we saved it. Normally it's 7.5 miles of "where the heck is the current taking us?"
Things to remember:
There is a new mark! You must honor Scotland (E on the sailing instructions, or red nun "12" near the mouth of the Miles River).
It's an early start - Stars warning is 5:45 pm.
You can go around the Island either way. You just have to figure out where the current is favorable (good luck!).
The Race Committee will monitor VHF 78 all evening. You never know what might happen, so we'll be on channel 78.
